MY STORY

How I Got Here

Sports Coaching

Ever since I was a child I have wanted to share my life long love of movement, to help others feel the self expression and empowering joy of movement in everyday life and be able to apply this physical confidence to any chosen sport or training discipline.

It has been my pleasure to support individuals to develop their confidence, physical and mental strength, explore new skills, develop efficient movement, improve their interoception (the ability to recognise the signals from your body) and cherish their physical autonomy.

As a child I was active in a range of hobbies and sports.

Personal Competitive Development

Since 2018 my training focus narrowed into powerlifting, progressing to an elite international competitive level, pushing my physical and mental boundaries towards optimal performance. I have learnt to manage recovery and to heal - body, mind and nervous system. Part of pushing myself to explore my limits I have had to overcome injuries, refocus and re-orientate myself along the way. These experiences have facilitated further learning and development, highlighting to me the value of staying true and mindfully connected to yourself.

In 2022 I placed 3rd, in the u57kg category, at British Championships. I knew that to unlock further competitive potential I needed to develop my knowledge, practice and application of nutrition. I felt confident that I could optimise my health, weight and strength in a lower weight category. This was a successful strategy, which garnered several competitive achievements. I worked with a few nutrition coaches, studied for several qualifications, and integrated nutrition for sport performance into my life. I gained a lot of experience, including the understanding that not all methods work for everyone - shock!

A highlight - sharing the podium with two inspirations of British powerlifting.

Strains of Elite Performance

In 2023 I won my first British championship, went on to to represent Team GBR in 2024, placing 6th at the European championship winning Gold on bench press, achieving a new British record, became Western European Champion, and saw out the year retaining the title of British Champion. On paper, a very successful competitive run.

During this time, despite my experience, knowledge, and support of those around me, I became acutely overwhelmed, exhausted and struggled to recover (physically and mentally). I sought help and support for my ADHD, deepened my knowledge and studies of neurodiversity, and explored the impact this has had on me throughout my life.

Taking a step back and looking at everything I was undertaking - the infallible commitment to my training and competitive powerlifting, layered with the work and the demands of family life and being a parent; navigating complicated, often conflicting, schedules, taxiing everyone around, managing the varied dietary needs and preferences of all of us (meals times were chaos!). I realised that somewhere along the way I had lost my purpose, authenticity and with it, some of the joy. I couldn’t recall why I was doing it all - for me? I felt I should? I didn’t want to let people down? to prove something?

Reclaiming my purpose, letting go of what no longer serves me.

Yoga Practice

Regular yoga practice saved me when physical injury became a barrier to easy movement, and when mental/ADHD burnout made life so hard. Yoga helped me learn to calm and centre my nervous system, rebuild my ability to tune in to my body, helped me practice non attachment, overcome physical and mental restraints and rekindle the joy of moving my body. I learned to nourish my body and to thrive again.

Thriving through movement.
